Trees are usually root-bound by this time, which means that they have been growing in containers for a while and their roots have filled up the pot. When you plant them, be sure to dig a hole that is twice as wide as the pot and just as deep. Loosen the soil around the edges of the pot and tip it over. The tree should slide out easily. If it doesn’t, give it a little help. Place the tree in the hole and fill in around it with soil, packing it down as you go. Learn more about the best time to plant fruit trees in our post here.
